annanotbob's Diaryland Diary ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The play's the thing Whew, I'm home. I've fallen into my comfy chair and my internet world with the sensation of having been tossed on stormy seas for weeks on end, climbing mountains and battling fierce dragons. Which is a bit of a melodramatic response to a night in the spare room round Marion's. Sara had a great birthday (she cried over the card I made her - result!) and her party with all the quizzes and games went down a storm. I called in at my sister's this morning and my niece Kim was really impressed at having hardly drunk at all, without even noticing and still laughing more than she had in years. Uses were found for the spare false moustaches:
Marion, her daughter Jen and I went to see this play last night. Fucking hell. It was the most visceral theatre experience I've had in I don't know how long. Since I started teaching I've seen too much bloody Shakespeare - don't get me wrong, I know he's the man and all, but for fuck's sake, four hundred years later we've got to have more than Shakespeare. Yes we do - a lot of plays with sets consisting of four grey pillars, actors all dressed in black, one red prop and a lot of pretentious angst about nothing. I have seen so many plays like that - nothing to look at and too much bollocks to listen to. But this Stockholm was electrifying - a couple of times I felt it so intensely I wanted to leave, but then it calmed down for a bit and the whole thing was only just over an hour. It never occurred to me that my flaky state of head would have such an effect on my response to a show - though I'm a sucker for that creepy horror-film music at the best of times. Fabulous. We made a good little trio - Marion is very Marks and Spencer, I'm a scruff and Jen is eighteen, utterly gorgeous and hip, but we easily managed to keep a general conversation going between the three of us, with lots of laughing. Tonight we had the family birthday meal with me:
and them:
I like that pic - they look kind of psycho. I also realise I've been wearing this same blue dress and green cardie since Friday, which probably comes under the heading 'failure to attend to personal hygiene' in the nutters' handbook. In this outfit I did all of Friday (whatever that was), cleaned the house before I went out yesterday, ate in a restaurant, went to the theatre, visited my sister, did a couple of hours gardening and a bit more cleaning, then out for another meal in another restaurant. Just as well it's not dirty, eh. Grateful for: Sweet dreams xx 11:07 p.m. - 04/05/2008 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
