Braziers, not brassieres

Second entry of the day - do flip back for wonderful clips, especially for the plumptious amongst us.

I went to the writing group at the psych day hospital today. Completely different reception from the other 'service users' when you're a returner not a stranger. Like smiles instead of glares - makes quite a difference. As a writing group it's shite - mixed ability just doesn't describe it, but as a therapeutic way to spend an hour it's pretty cool. Today's topic was dragons as apparently today is St George's Day but that was the only reference to it that I encountered all day - we just don't give a shit, George. Sorry. We have a 'warm-up' exercise first - today's was to write ten words or phrases about dragons, which I thought was rubbish until we all read them out. Then I realised just how many things I hadn't thought of, and then I felt embarrassed because no one else said 'sexual'. Bet they all thought it though. I managed to write a short piece that wasn't directly autobiographical (just mildly hysterical) which was pleasing.

I would like to register a complaint about the teachers' strike tomorrow. I was a teacher for thirteen years, a fully paid up member of the union, during a time when state education was being systematically destroyed and not once did I have the chance to go on strike. Not once. I've always wanted to stand round a brazier, talking revolution and yelling at passing cars. Looting, that's another one. I've always fancied a bit of looting. Ah well, I'm still young, plenty of time for all that.

On Monday I have a meeting with my friend Sarah C, for which we will both get paid! Neither of us can quite believe that we're gonna pull this one off, but it's looking good. We'd both like an allotment, but there's a long waiting list and then lots of digging required, so she's suggested it to the council as a green project for schools. They're dead keen and will give her a list of five sites to choose from as soon as she can present them with a proposed schedule. I am the horicultural adviser, which is a bit of a fucking joke, but shhh, no one needs to know. We'll have some lovely baddie kids out in the fresh air, growing enough yummy, organic fruit and veg for us all and getting paid for our time. Marvellous.

Today I am grateful for:
1. Managing on only one dose of codeine
2. My lovely daughter
3. Friends
4. Warm enough to wear my flip-flops, yay!!
5. Panna cotta - I know I've said it before, but really, it's heaven in a plastic tub.

Sweet dreams xxx
